Painted MDF Shaker is what most people pick and it's the right pick — flat panel, crisp edges, no grain telegraphing through, and it takes a factory finish that beats anything applied on site. Solid wood Shaker in maple or oak costs more and is worth it if you're staining rather than painting.
Rigid thermofoil is the budget door. It's a vinyl skin over MDF, it wipes clean, and it fails in exactly one place: next to a dishwasher or an oven where steam and heat get under the edge. If we use it, the doors flanking heat sources get a different material and that's written on your scope.
