Can I install a sump pump myself?
Swapping a pump into an existing pit is doable if you're handy and the circuit is right. Cutting a new pit, tying in drain tile, running a proper discharge line that won't freeze at the foundation, and putting the pump on a dedicated GFCI circuit is licensed work, and New Jersey towns inspect the electrical and the discharge. We do the plumbing and the electrical with our own crew and pull the permit where the town requires one.
My pump runs constantly. Is that urgent?
A pump cycling every few minutes in a dry week means groundwater is high or water is being fed to it — a downspout at the corner, a grading problem, or a failing check valve letting the same water fall back in. It's not a tonight emergency, but a pump running that hard is a pump that will die, usually during the storm you need it most.
