Why homeowners make First Call the only call
You don't need another contractor. You need the last one. Here's why people in 219+ New Jersey towns stop calling around after they call us — not slogans, just how the company is built and what that does for you.
Free in-home consultation · written price on the spot · no deposit
Licensed & insured · 2,000+ NJ projects · 7 years · a real person answers 24/7

It's never the tile. It's the layers.
When a remodel goes bad, it's almost never the tile, the paint or the cabinets. It's the layers between you and the person swinging the hammer. A company sells you the job. It hands the job to a subcontractor. The sub hires whoever's free that week. Now there are three companies on your project, and you've only met one of them.
Every layer costs you twice. Once in money — each one takes a cut. And once in blame — when the shower leaks, the tile guy blames the plumber, the plumber blames the framer, and the salesman stopped answering in week two.
First Call works the other way. One licensed crew does your whole job, first hammer to last coat of paint. The plumber, the electricians, the carpenters and the tile setter are the same team, on our payroll, reporting to the same foreman. One name on the contract. One person who picks up the phone. That's the only reason we can promise the price and the day it's done.
We read the one-star reviews of the big chains. Then we built the opposite.
The national remodeling chains spend hundreds of millions on TV, door-knockers and call centers. Their one-star reviews on the BBB, Trustpilot and ConsumerAffairs say the same things over and over. We turned every one of them into a house rule. No company is named here; you can look the patterns up yourself.
A 45-minute visit from the crew lead who will do the work. No script, no 'let me call my manager', and we leave when you want us to.
One written price. It is good for 90 days and it is the same whether you sign today or in March.
Fair New Jersey pricing, itemized line by line. Bring any written quote and we match the scope line for line.
Whoever is home is fine. We email the written price and you decide on your own time. Nobody is asked to sign on the spot.
No deposit on most jobs and no cancellation fee before work starts. Custom-ordered materials are the one exception, and we tell you before we order them.
Our own crew, one lead, the same faces from the first day to the last. Licensed trades in-house, not rented.
We photograph your home before we start. Anything we damage, we fix, at our cost, in writing.
A plain-English warranty and a phone that gets answered. Warranty calls get a response within two business days, with no per-piece fees.
We never knock on doors and we never robocall. You call us. One follow-up after your estimate, then we leave you alone.
Your start date in writing, text updates along the way, and if anything slips we tell you before you notice.
Family-member rule: customers 65+ are encouraged to have a family member on the call, and we never ask anyone to sign the same day.
If you finance, the APR, the monthly payment and the total cost go on paper before you sign anything.
If it is not in the written scope, it is not real, so we put everything in the scope. Plywood, soffits, doors, the credit — all of it.
Magnetic nail sweep on every roof job, haul-away on every job, and a final walkthrough with you before the last payment.
And the things people love about the chains? We do those too.
Ours do. It is the same crew every day, so they know your house.
Most tub-to-shower conversions take one to two days; most roofs one to two. We tell you the real number before we start.
One lead, one phone number, and a walkthrough with you before the last payment.
Ours transfers with the house, in writing.
Available on projects, explained on paper, never pushed.
The price is in writing before we start
An estimate is a guess with your money. We don't give them. At your free in-home consultation we measure, open the access panel, check the stack and the electrical panel, and hand you an itemized price on the spot — every line, plus a start date and a finish date. That number cannot change without your signature on a written change order. If we find something hidden, you get photos and priced options first. If you say no, the price stays where it was.
- Itemized — demo, permits, materials by tier, labor, haul-away, cleanup. No 'plus tax, plus permit' at the bottom of the invoice.
- Fixed — the Price-Lock Guarantee, printed in your contract.
- Free — the visit, the price and the plan cost nothing, even if you never hire us.
The owner answers the phone
The number on your contract rings Alex — 24/7. Not a call center in another state. Not a 'customer care' inbox that answers in three business days. The person whose name is on the company is the person you reach when something's wrong, during the job and three years after it. When the owner has to take the call, the job gets done right the first time. Try that with a national brand.
Licensed trades, in-house
A licensed master plumber is on the team. So are New Jersey licensed electricians and HVAC techs. They're not rented for the day — they're the same crew that builds the kitchens and the roofs. So the 'small' plumbing fix on your handyman list is done to code. The generator gets its gas line and its transfer switch on one schedule. The bathroom's drains and its tile are set by people who answer to the same foreman — which is the only way anyone can honestly guarantee a shower watertight for 5 years.
- General contracting & remodeling — kitchens, bathrooms, basements, additions, interiors, attic and garage conversions
- Plumbing — a licensed master plumber on the team
- Roofing, siding & exteriors, windows & doors, decks & outdoor living
- Electrical, heating & AC — licensed electricians and HVAC techs on the crew
- 24/7 emergency repairs — a real person answers, day or night
24/7 means a person, not a machine
A burst pipe at 2am. A tree through the roof on a Sunday. No heat on the coldest night of the year. You call, a person answers, and a crew is dispatched the same day — often within the hour in Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Essex and Morris, same-day with an honest arrival window everywhere else in the state. The price is approved before we touch anything, and it's the same price at 2am as at 2pm. Then the same company that stopped the emergency rebuilds what it wrecked, so you're not starting over with a stranger.
Local — all 21 counties of it
We're based in Paramus, and we work in all 21 New Jersey counties — 219+ towns. That's not a call center's 'service area.' It's where the trucks go. Bergen County is home base and the fastest response; Passaic, Essex, Morris and Hudson are a short drive; the rest of the state gets the same crew, the same price brackets and the same guarantees, with an honest travel window instead of a made-up one. Distance never changes your number.
Heard one of these before?
The four contractor horror stories homeowners tell us all the time. We hear them at almost every consultation. Here's each story — and how First Call was built so it can't happen to you.
Our fix: Written price in your contract. If anything changes, we explain it first and get your approval — because we inspect behind the walls like builders before we quote.
Our fix: One dedicated crew stays on your job, you know the plan and the expected timeline, and you get a photo update text every single workday.
Our fix: The people who quote your job are the people who build it. Same crew, same foreman, every day. Big chains rent subcontractors — we don't.
Our fix: We don't take deposits — you pay as work gets done, because we stand tall on our work. And the number on your contract rings the owner, 24/7. Try that with a national brand.
15–30% less than the big-name chains
The big companies pay for TV ads, salesmen and rented subcontractors. Guess who pays for all of that? You do. We run one crew as one lean New Jersey team, and the owner answers his own phone. No franchise fees, no commissioned salesmen, no rented subcontractors — that's typically 15–30% under national-brand quotes for the same or better spec.
Bring us any written quote — we'll match the scope line by line. Same tile, same fixtures, same permits, same cleanup. Then compare. It's the only fair way to compare two contractors, and it's the comparison the chains would rather you didn't make.
The guarantees, in one place
Anyone can promise. We sign. Every First Call Contracting contract carries the No-Surprise Guarantee and the three written guarantees behind it — printed in the contract, not on a poster.
Your price is in writing — no additional charges without your approval. You know the plan — clear scope, clear communication and an expected timeline before work begins, plus a photo update text every workday. We stand behind our work — if there's a workmanship issue covered by your guarantee, we come back and make it right.
If anything we install that carries water leaks, cracks or fails within 5 years, we fix it — and we repair the damage it caused. The ceiling, the drywall, the paint.
Your itemized price is fixed before work starts and cannot change without your signature on a written change order.
You hold the final payment until we walk the finished job together, item by item, and you sign off. Anything not right gets fixed before we're done.
Straight answers
What's actually different about you and a big-name chain?
The chain sells the job and rents the crew. We are the crew. Everything else comes from that one difference: a price we can fix because we inspected it ourselves, a finish date we can keep because nobody's waiting on a sub, a guarantee we can sign because the plumber and the tile setter answer to the same foreman — and a number that's typically 15–30% lower because you're not paying for TV ads and a salesman's commission.
Do you really not use subcontractors?
One dedicated licensed crew, no rented subcontractors, the same foreman every day. The plumber, the electricians, the HVAC techs, the carpenters and the tile setters are on our payroll. That's why one name can sign for the price, the date and the guarantee.
Is the 15–30% real?
It's the math of not paying for TV ads, commissioned salesmen and a sub's markup on top of the labor — for the same or better spec. Check it the way we'd check it: bring us any written quote and we'll match the scope line by line, so you're comparing the same job and not two different ones.
Do you take small jobs, or only remodels?
Both. A running toilet, a door that won't latch, a dead outlet, a gutter that overflows — same licensed crew, flat price before we start, same-day and next-day. The person who fixes your door today is the one you'll call when you're ready for the kitchen. That's the whole idea behind 'First Call. Only Call.'
Do both spouses need to be home for the estimate?
No. Whoever is home is fine. We look at the job, measure, and email the written price. You decide on your own time, together, without a salesperson in the room.
Is the price only good if I sign today?
No. Your written price is good for 90 days. There is no 'tonight only' discount, because the first number is the real number.
Do you use subcontractors?
No. Our own licensed crew does the work — plumbers, electricians, carpenters and roofers on our team, with one lead on your job from start to finish.
What happens if I cancel?
Before work starts, nothing. There is no deposit on most jobs and no cancellation fee. If custom materials were ordered for your job, that is the one exception, and we tell you before we order them.
Do you knock on doors or cold-call?
Never. We do not canvass, we do not robocall, and we do not buy your number from a list. Every customer we have called us first.
What if your crew damages something?
We photograph your home before we start. Anything we damage, we fix at our cost. It is written into the contract.
How fast do you answer a warranty call?
Within two business days, with a real appointment. There are no per-piece or per-visit fees on warranty work.
